
The first smartphone called Simon was introduced by IBM in 1992. This device integrated scientific calculator, calendar, address book, notepad, e-mail, video games, fax all in one. Later, many other Cell Phone company giants such as Nokia, Ericson, RIM and the Black Berry smartphone introduced their smartphone products with varying features and price ranges. Advanced smart Cell Phones offer multiple functionalities such as SMS, MMS, instant messaging, e-mail and other 3G services. The first operating system used in smart phones is known as Symbian. Later on, Microsoft Inc launched Microsoft windows powered Smartphone 2002. Multitouch interface feature in Touch Phone was introduced by Apple Inc in 2007. These smartphones are more popular as iPhones. In 2008 Apple Inc introduced the second generation iPhone at a lower cost with 3G support. Some major players like Nokia, RIM, Blackberry introduced their individual propriety products with many additional features. These advanced smart iPhones provide their own application library and also connectivity to third party free and paid application store.The new technology is expected to have an enormous commercial utility if used judiciously by property dealers, stock brokers, health professionals, legal professionals and company executives.
This multifunctional asset may turn into a liability or a nightmare when it goes in wrong hands. This tiny device has paved the way for organized cyber crime. At the same time innocent children have become victims of this technological invention. They fall prey to dreaded video games, cyber sex and other such derogatory sites unknowingly. The today’s smart phones are vulnerable. Professional hackers also known as Security Researchers can easily break open the identity of the owner by using a seven digit numerical code. In the process the hacker can come to know about the owner’s particulars such as name, address, travel plan, bank accounts and other personal information. The future challenge before the next generation smart phone is to overcome this limitation.
